This is the first of a series of paintings "inspired" by our trip to Italy last May. I can't wait to go back...not quite finished, still wet.

You really are the best in a true American Impressionist spirit!
I have never been to Italy but maybe you could take me on your next trip.

I think the sky is indecisive.

Thanks guy in Wisconsin. It is snowing here in Upstate NY too. That's why I'm dreaming of Venice. How about next spring for a trip?
Johnnie...an indecisive sky???...could be, since all art reflects the artist.
Hey Rob,
I was at a bookstore today and was holding, "Sargent in Italy". I think your painting is a knock-off of the cover. Perhaps you should use water-miscible oils and throw your painting in the shower to infuse the "still wet" after the shower feeling!
I heard that Twachtman left his paintings outside to "age".

I guess I would have to say (blush), "Great minds think alike."
Seriously, I haven't seen that book, but I have seen enough of Sargent's Italy paintings that I might very well have recalled something of his while working on the painting, just as I might recall Monet when working on a painting of a haystack, Whistler when working on a night painting or Chardin when working on a still life. Hensche used to say, "Nobody is a visual virgin." What counts, I guess, is what we each bring of our own to any painting.
I'll take the shower suggestion under advisement.
